TOXIC FASHION by ANNE VECK
THE FASHION INDUSTRY IS A PARODY OF ITSELF. AN INDUSTRY DEDICATING TO MAKE PEOPLE BEAUTIFUL THAT IN FACT DESTROY THE LIFE OF 1000 Why consumers should be educated from a young age on how to seek and purchase high-quality clothing made from natural materials that lasts years. I shot this collection in a scrap yard and the intention is to shock and to bring to the attention of the hairdressing industry how destructive the fashion world is to people and the planet. Each image illustrates a theme, e.g. the cotton industry, ghost fishing , over use of plastic, pollution of our rivers by chemical discharges. To achieve the looks I incorporated waste materials including daubing the hair with paint, melting plastic into the hair and plaiting the hair with wire. This is a story about clothing. It’s about the clothes we wear, the people who make those clothes and the impact it’s having on our world. The price of clothing has been decreasing for decades, while the human and environmental costs have grown dramatically.
